Time Pieces

Pieces of partially masked steel are placed outside and left exposed to the elements for specific periods of time, ranging from a lunar cycle, to a month, season or year.
Each steel plate gets formed over that period, diarising the elements and recording climatic events on the exposed surface.
The end result is an abstract depiction of the Earth, Moon, or Sun, as told by the climate. Whether prolonged periods of rain, summer droughts and hose pipe bans, all is revealed in the patina that builds up on the exposed steel.
It’s not all rain, snow and sleet, the ambient temperature and wind has an effect, as do passing animals or falling leaves that etch themselves onto the surface like fossils.
